Dexter Kamilewicz (kam i lé vich) is a native Mainer who grew up in Greater Portland, Maine. He is a graduate of South Portland High School and Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts with a BA in English. He taught English at Oxford Hills High School and was an educational administrator in the Oxford Hills School Administrative District 17.

Dexter’s professional career has been in real estate management, brokerage and consulting in Maine, Greater Boston, the Caribbean and throughout the northeastern United States. For twelve years he operated his own real estate company, Acadia Bay Company in Portland, Maine.

Dexter is a peace activist who has participated in anti-war actions against the War in Iraq. He speaks regularly throughout southern Maine and has appeared on numerous local access television and radio programs. He is a frequent contributor to Maine newspapers writing articles about the War in Iraq. He is a member of Military Families Speak Out, Veterans for Peace of Maine, Maine Peace Action and PeaceWorks.

Dexter has served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Maine Audubon Society, Board of Directors of Congregational Retirement Homes (Melrose, MA), Board of Directors Interfaith Housing Corporation (Cambridge, MA), Board of Directors of the MIT Nursery School and numerous community and church-related positions. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries of Northern New England (Chair of the Retail Services Committee), Member of the Parking Committee of Portland Downtown District, and member of the Long Range Planning Committee of First Parish Church of Brunswick, Maine. He also serves on a facilities management curriculum advisory committee of Southern Maine Community College.

Dexter resides on Orr’s Island with his wife Gretchen. They have five grown children: Alexander, Benjamin (recently returned from serving in Ramadi, Iraq with the Vermont National Guard), Nyasha, Joselice, and Maria.
